About Haugland Translation

Haugland Translation is a sole proprietorship founded by William Haugland

William Haugland is a seasoned translator originally from the scenic island of Askøy, which sits right outside Bergen, the second largest city in Norway. William grew up on the north side of the island and was taught Nynorsk from an early age, later he focused more on learning Bokmål as that gave him more
career opportunities, and since it was the more wider used writing language of the two.

His international career began in 2011 when he moved to Ireland, where he worked with leading technology companies such as IBM and Google. During his time there, he gained extensive experience in customer service and language support, developing a strong foundation in cross-cultural communication and multilingual project management.

In 2015, William moved to Canada, where he specialized in AI and video game localization for over seven years. This period allowed him to deepen his expertise in language quality assurance, project coordination, and localization strategies within the tech and gaming industries. William’s hands-on experience in these fields has equipped him with the skills necessary to deliver precise, high-quality translations that are both accurate and culturally relevant.

Currently based in France, where he lives with his French wife and their two young sons, William is fully bilingual. His work focuses on helping businesses effectively communicate with Norwegian-speaking audiences, whether through technical documentation, marketing content, or gaming interfaces. William’s approach is meticulous and client-focused, ensuring that every translation captures the intended message and tone while respecting cultural nuances.

Outside of his professional endeavors, William is passionate about gaming and has a deep love for science fiction and fantasy literature. These interests not only fuel his enthusiasm for localization projects but also provide him with valuable insights into the world of gaming, making him an ideal partner for clients in the industry. He is also an avid traveler, enjoying the opportunity to explore new cultures and revisit Norway’s breathtaking landscapes whenever possible.

Taxes and Business information

In France, the auto-entrepreneur (or micro-entrepreneur) status is a simplified business structure allowing individuals to work as freelancers with minimal administration and tax obligations. Freelancers registered under this status are responsible for their own taxes and social security contributions, issuing invoices directly to clients. This simplifies collaboration for companies, as they don’t need to manage payroll or employment contracts.

SIREN and SIRET Numbers

SIREN: A 9-digit unique identification number for a business. SIRET: A 14-digit number that includes the SIREN plus a 5-digit code identifying the business’s location or establishment. These numbers appear on invoices and confirm that the freelancer is legally registered and authorized to operate in France.

Répertoire SIRENE

The Répertoire SIRENE is the national directory of businesses in France, managed by INSEE (the French National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies). It contains details about all registered businesses, including auto-entrepreneurs. Each freelancer is registered in this directory upon creation of their business and receives their SIREN and SIRET numbers, confirming their legal status and allowing them to operate.

Foreign equivalent

The U.S. and Canadian equivalent to the auto-entrepreneur status in France is the sole proprietorship. Both structures are designed for individuals running their own businesses with minimal administrative requirements. Sole proprietors in both countries are self-employed, responsible for their own taxes, and report income and expenses through their personal tax returns. Similar to the auto-entrepreneur, they can issue invoices directly to clients and manage their own social security contributions

In the UK, the equivalent to the auto-entrepreneur status is the Sole Trader structure.
